Al-Qaeda Two Timing McCain

At least, that is, according to the McCain campaign. Earlier this week a poster on the password protected al-Hesbah website gave his and apparently Al-Qaeda’s endorsement to the McCain campaign, suggesting that he would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US in order to help drive people to vote for Senator John McCain. In response, the McCain campaign has accused the terrorist group of using reverse psychology that was apparently too advanced for Hamas when they endorsed Obama. Or was it? (Cue spooky music)

The McCain endorsement came Monday saying that Al-Qaeda’s objective of bleeding America dry of resources would be best continued under the administration of an “impetuous” leader and that John McCain is just the leader they need as he would most likely continue the costly war in Iraq.

“This requires (the) presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier. Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush. If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests, this act will be (in) support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."

Under the light of such a glowing endorsement from a globally known group, the McCain campaign released shocking news. That this was nothing but a cover to hide Al-Qaeda’s deep desires for Senator Obama. Former CIA director Woolsey, the man who blamed Sadam Hussein for the 9/11 attack two days after it happened, had this to say.

"... If one takes one individual Islamist blogger from one terrorist Islamist blog, who has come up with this statement that it would be good to have McCain in the White House, I think one has to consider the motives. This individual knows that the endorsement of people like him is a kiss of death, figuratively and literally, so it seems to me it's pretty clear that by making this statement that he wants, that it would be a good thing for McCain to be President, he is clearly trying to damage John McCain, not speaking from his heart. So I must say I think the overall structure of the debate as one analyzes it coming out of this story taken at face value is quite remarkable."

Despite his past poor judgment, maybe the former director is on to something. Maybe this blogger is using reverse psychology on the American populace in order to make them vote for the man who really gets Al-Qaeda hot under the collar. Or, maybe if the poster is so smart, he knew that he’d immediately be called on the reverse psychology angle and is trying to make people think that Al-Qaeda supports Barack Obama by endorsing John McCain to put McCain in the White House. He could have seen that coming and really triple reversed or quadruple reversed it. This circular logic could go on all day. The real story is in the hypocrisy of it all.

Much earlier in the campaign the Palestinian extremist group Hamas gave their endorsement to Senator Obama, and the McCain campaign was quick to jump on it and reading the McCain website it is apparently still one of their striking points against Senator Obama. Not long after the endorsement Senator McCain had this response.

“Barack Obama's foreign policy plans have even won him praise from Hamas leaders. Ahmed Yousef, chief political adviser to the Hamas Prime Minister said, ‘We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win the election. He has a vision to change America.’

We need change in America, but not the kind of change that wins kind words from Hamas.”

It doesn’t matter that Barack Obama immediately refused the endorsement or that Hamas has stripped the endorsement from him after Senator Obama pledge his support to Israel. Nor that Hamas is, in all likelihood, just as capable of working the reverse psychology angle as “random militant a” from the al-Hesbah forums. Apparently, according to the McCain campaign, any damning endorsement or anything said against Barack Obama can be taken at face value. It’s only when aimed at John McCain must a statement be examined and never trusted and is usually in some way really a criticism or striking point against Senator Obama. It’s not the first example of such double standards either.

The first major criticism of Senator Obama from the McCain camp came in the form of calling Barack Obama an elitist and a celebrity. Never mind that the McCain definition of “elitist” seems to be anyone with a brain and from a city because this is about the real definition. The problem for the McCain campaign is that it’s just been revealed that “small town, folksy, middle class, everywoman” Sarah Palin has received over $150,000 worth of up scale clothing and accessories from the Republican National Committee. Apparently small town formal wear isn’t good enough for a VP candidate that absolutely must be paraded around to be viewed as pink meat for the very red. If that’s not elitist, what is? Another example comes from concern voiced by Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman.

The quotes from the two men are essentially saying the same thing, that the next president will be tested early in their first term just as all new presidents are.

"Our enemies will test the new president early. Remember that the truck bombing of the World Trade Center happened in the first year of the Clinton administration. 9/11 happened in the first year of the Bush administration."

Lieberman’s statement came in late June while trying to make his case that Senator McCain would be better suited to lead the US at this point in time then Senator Obama would be, citing McCain’s experience in foreign policy and long time spent in the US Congress. Joe Biden’s statement came more recently.

"It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Watch. We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy”

Biden continued on to say that the perpetrators of such a crisis will find that Obama has “steel in his spine” and that Obama is surrounding himself with the best possible people to help him. Both people used the statement to try and support their candidate as the best choice in such a crisis, but only Obama has been attacked for it. No one even cared when Lieberman said it.

The only thing this can really point to is that the McCain Campaign has run out of options. Palin’s bounce has stopped bouncing and seems to have actually put some dents in the floor and is now resting at a lower point then it started. McCain can’t win on the economy, nor connect viscerally to the people of the United States. The defamation of Obama’s character has fallen flat, and more people now actually trust Obama on foreign policy then they do McCain by some polls. So what is left when everything in the Republican playbook fails? Could they think of something new and innovative, a strategy to re-energize the campaign and win back the crucial swing voters? Apparently not. All they can manage is to resort to the tactics of a kindergartner screaming at the top of his lungs “I am rubber and you are glue.”
